KNOTAN - Raw Stuff

The New Blood Agency has been getting a lot of awareness on creative blogs this week,
so I thought I would include the lovely raw photography of Knotan (one of their photographers)
If you are from Sweden, you've seen his work popping up in all the usual fanzines. His studio images
remind me of early Vice editorial, but with a more sophisticated look and edge. Love it!

NO SMOKING DAY - Saturday 31st

Tomorrow is World No Smoking Day! This nice simple ad conveys the idea
of being around as long as you can to pass life (knowledge etc) onto you children.
If you don't have any children you could always borrow one for the day I guess?

WE THINK - Mass Innovation

We think - is a nice little animated movie about the state of today online and where this is heading
in the world around us. Nowadays you are what you share, like it or not! Don't be scared it will be for
the better in the long run, I hope ;-)

BRAND TAGS - Consumer Perception

This is a great way to check out what people think of your brand, as we all know...
consumer perception counts more than ever in these transitional days - brandtags.net

VW - Concept / Execution

A great ad here where the execution, style and effect works so well for the idea!
Spot on!

NEWS - MSN Spectra

MSN have launched Spectra, where you control the news you want to know, all from RSS feeds.
A nice simple navigation and look, but I kinda miss video here, maybe because it's everywhere these days.
An overall good site which has the right level of content and flash, not overdone which is how it could of ended up.

WORD CLOCK - Customization = Innovation

Simon Heys has some rather nice online & digital work going on, especially his downloadable
Word Clock and Flickr based screensaver. The Word Clock lets you change colour, layout,
font etc and includes 18 languages at the moment. This is my colourway above, which I've had
for a while now. Think I will change the specs tomorrow for a fresh setup, just cauz I can ;-)
Super innovation, just when you thought downloads were out eh!!!

VU VISUAL UTILITY - Inspiration

I'm currently working on the VU look book for 2008 and thought I would share one of
the spreads on the blog. Packed full of photography, information graphics, visual trends,
social networking hypes and general inspiration. Keep posted!

VIVENNE WESTWOOD - Opus Book

Vivenne Westwood is a true legend and innovator! Somebody I rate very highly in creative terms.
It was great to catch her retrospective exhibition at the V&A in 2004, really inspiring!
Now she releases a very limited edition book, Opus. 900 copies, 9 different covers - all signed.
The book gives insight into her designs and collections, it also contains various images of friends
and family taken on a very special Polaroid camera. Lovely, but not sure of the cost ;-)

TIM RICHARDSON - Effect

Tim Richardson works with image and film for the likes of: Lee, Levi's, Dazed, YSL, Big Magazine and Creative Review.
I like the effects and distortions that he adds to much of his work, refreshing from the usual crisp fashion shots or
the over retouched advertising we see everywhere today.

AWARENESS!

Really like the way this ad draws you in with beautiful (over-used/of the moment) visuals and slow-motion,
but then hits you with the hard truth and message. Great use of sound working with visuals here!

INTRODUCING - The Axiotron Modbook

The Axiotron Modbook, we all knew something like this was coming sooner or later!

MASTER COMMUNICATOR - George Lois

I think I became aware of George Lois when his book $ellebrity came out and I then realised how
influential he was to advertising. He created the concept of celebrity to sell product, amongst other things...
which is still a huge appeal today. But I just love how he turned the failing MTV project round. Legend!

HUMANITARIAN PROJECT - Advertising

Advertising can save the world! We just have to have the dedication to make it happen!
So if you are entering the Cannes Lions Festival this year, please follow through with this ;-)

CR ANNUAL - Winners

In the May issue of Creative Review you'll find the CR Annual, with 100 pages of this years winners.
This poster above is from a range for the London nightclub Fabric, designed by Village Green.
I love the direction of these super striking and wacky posters, they must leave other club promotions
and graphics feeling cheap and lacking soul!

2001 INFLUENCE - Richard Serra

Remember the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey? American artist
Richard Serra has created these huge ones in the Grand Palais, Paris.
Impressive, but I'd rather see them outside in a large open space.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE - More & More

I really like the simplicity of these type of sites and even though this is a portfolio site
I think you can expect to see the style and tech behind it becoming more and more apparent
all over the web for big brands and companies soon.
This is a mix of HTML, JAVA, Flash using Java Script Tween animations to nice simple effect.
My worry is the style and layouts will become over used and start to look formatted, it will also
stop the ideas being taken further in some cases.
Method have great work from offices in London, San Francisco and New York.

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES - Nick Knight

Agent Provocateur have always had a good web presence, utilizing Flash before many other brands
and collaborating with some of the best image makers in the world. This time Nick Knight pushes the
buttons with some help from various creatives including - Jake and Dinos Chapman, amongst others.
The end result is a nice mixed media campaign, images and mini films. The web part also has a very
interactive feel which fits the overall idea, but is nothing new really.

STOCKHOLM - European Design Week

This Thursday the European Design Week kicks off in Stockholm.
There is loads going on - like a walk round various creative companies in the city.
Some nice international designers will also be speaking, which I hope to attend.
Check it out!

THE VICE EFFECT - A Must Have!

I recently received The Vice Photo Book from those lovely chaps at Vice Scandinavia. And it's no letdown!
Since 1995 Vice Magazine have been influential in documenting all parts of youth culture (and beyond)
from underground cults and odd scenes around the world. But it was their raw honest photography which really
made it's mark and spawned so many budding photographers, creating almost a DIY attitude and style.
Packed full of the best editorial over the years, this book is a must have!
If in Stockholm, check out the 2 exhibitions at AG925 - Ryan Foerster and PUB - Jamie-James Medina.
All through May.

STOP FRAME - Animation

There seems to be a lot of stop frame animations popping up these days,
like this by Greg Kadel Studios. Looks like a fun way to spend an afternoon!

25ah - Graphic Design

If you live in Stockholm you've probably seen the work of 25ah on a regular basis.
Tight club poster graphics from Sweden!
